The Reading Room

The reading room is open and available for use by anybody from noon until 3.00pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. It is also open from 6.30pm to 7.15 on Wednesdays.

There are two main areas: the reception area has books, CDs, DVDs and some other materials including current Christian Science periodicals and the Print Edition of the Christian Science Monitor for sale; it also houses a small free lending library, and is the space where the duty librarian can talk with those visitors who wish to enquire about Christian Science.

The study room, sometimes known as the 'quiet room', provides an appropriate environment for those seeking spiritual refreshment either by use of the available materials or simply by contemplative prayer.  The current Sunday Lesson-sermon is available in multiple formats including marked citations in the Bible and the companion book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.  The text of the citations is also available in a booklet format and in various electronic formats including audio (wireless headsets allow comfortable listening without disturbing other users of this room).  The book stock includes many different translations of the Bible, together with authoritative concordances and other related study material which includes a fairly complete collection of books about Christian Science and its founder and Christian Science periodicals, both current and archived.

A computer provides access to a number of Christian Science websites such as www.spirituality.com, www.christianscience.com and others which are listed on the Useful links page of our website.
