Our church services and Sunday school
Our Sunday services are very simple in format and free of ritual. Unlike most other Christian denominations, we do not have a personally prepared and delivered sermon; instead, the major part of the service is taken up by a 'Lesson-sermon' which comprises readings from the Bible - we use the Authorised Version - interspersed with readings from Science and Health with key to the Scriptures , written by Mary Baker Eddy, the discoverer and founder of Christian Science, which relate to the Bible citations and show their application in daily living. If you would like to see the subjects of recent and forthcoming Lesson-sermons, click here.
The Wednesday evening meetings also include hymns and readings from the Bible and Science and Health, but a period is set aside for members of the congregation, if they wish, to express gratitude for spiritual progress and healing which they have experienced, or to share some spiritual insight which they have gained.
The nature of Sunday school teaching obviously varies enormously depending on the age group. But from simple Biblical stories to intense discussions about the significance and meaning of the more complex scriptural passages, the underlying principles are the same: to develop a recognition of the ever-presence of God, and a desire to show in daily life such glimpses of the nature of this wholly good and loving God as have been grasped.
Sunday services are at 10.30am and Sunday school is held at the same time. Wednesday meetings commence at 7.30pm.
