About our church in Oxford

Oxford has known about Christian Science for nearly 120 years and held services in the city in different venues. The church membership acquired its present site in St Giles' in 1933 and our new purpose-designed edifice and Sunday School were built in 1986 replacing the old church building. In 2004 the Reading Room moved to its separate, pavilion-style accommodation built in the grounds. The quiet and pretty courtyard garden was remodelled, with a pool and fountain added, together with a glazed canopy entrance. The new gate includes a showcase where passages from the Bible and recent religious articles from the Christian Science Monitor can be read by passers-by. Awards from the Oxford Preservation Trust have recognized the fine features of our buildings and site as a whole.
